The overall portrayal of the events of D-Day suggest a highly organized event, which went smoothly with little enemy resistance at the time of the landings. The tone of the sources is one of heroic actions, and that the D-Day landings were historic. Such sources however need to be considered in terms of their purpose and possible audience. In attempting to boost the morale of the public after four years of war the reports emphasise the success and heroism of the events. The audience which had demonstrated great spirit in the face of the war could possibly have been feeling dejected at the length of the war. These reports whilst providing valuable information to anyone studying the detail of how the landings were organized and carried out, could also be regarded as propaganda aimed at boosting morale and playing down the loss of life of allied forces.
