National Content: Belgium

On the 6th June 1944 Belgium is occupied by the German army for 4 years. The population suffers numerous deprivations because the zone occupied by the 3rd Reich is under a strict blockade from the Allies. It also suffers the exactions and the lack of freedom due to the occupation.
Most of the Belgians wait for the Anglo-American landing that could put an end to these terrible years. Whereas some of the Belgians join the Resistance movement, others prefer to collaborate with the occupant for economic or ideological reasons.
In the Walloon area, it is important to underline the role played by the Rexist movement. It is an extreme right movement which was a quite important political force before the war and which actively collaborated with the Nazis during this period, particularly in the press field.
