Anecdotal information on the writing of the Treaty provides a human side to the political story whilst the views of politicians involved provide a good indication of what was felt at the time about the Treaty and aim to create a united Europe. The various stages which led to the Treaty of Rome show how the EEC was not a foregone conclusion.
