Contextualisation of the sourceThe file shows the first page of the main Italian daily newspaper, Corriere della Sera, on June 7th, 1944, the day after the “D-Day”. This newspaper is printed in Milan, and at that time it was still under the control of the fascist Italian Social Republic (RSI – Repubblica Sociale Italiana) and of the Nazi, who didn’t agree any freedom to the press.
Interpretation of the sourceThe source has a great value in order to understand the Italian point of view. This, in that period, was nothing more than a Nazifascist point of view, so the Allied invasion of Normandy is presented as an immediate defeat.
