Interpretation of the source | In 1957, six European countries (France, West Germany, Luxemburg, Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy) wish to create a wide common market encouraging the growth of their industrial and agricultural production and therefore to enhance the welfare of the population. Nevertheless the resources of energy to achieve that purpose are limited. Without energy, economic development would be compromised. In order to remedy that, the association of the overseas territories with the Common Market would allow to exchange energy giving raw material for a Common Investment Policy in these regions often underdeveloped as well as the progressive suppression of customs duties. Moreover, the six countries of the European Union whish to quickly acquire industrial and technical means necessary for nuclear energy production by putting in common raw material, knowledge as well as a checking system. |
