National Content: Belgium

In 1957, 12 years after World War II, Belgium was trying to rebuild its economy. The big firms were planning an extraordinary chance of expansion through the creation of a Common Market. The government was very enthusiastic as well.
The feeling of the population reflected by the Belgian press is rather different. Some people are anxious about the big economic monopolies. Some others fear a loss of decision-making powers, in fields such as agriculture for instance. A domination of capital(ism) on democracy is also feared.
