It could also be argued that this event is used as an opportunity to raise awareness as to the secretive nature of the Soviet Union as reference is made to the lack of information which was forthcoming on such issues as the rocket. The reference to the broadcasting of BBC Russian programmes on the radio and the fact that they were not blocked again re-enforces the idea of Russian reluctance to allow reporting of events which do not show Russia in a good light as the space flight of Gagarin does.
