Comparison between the National perspective and the “official” interpretation

In many Europeans minds, the First of September is the date of commencement of the Second World War, but for Poles it means much more. This is the beginning of the struggle and fight for the country's defence, it’s freedom and sovereignty, and most of all, the fight for independence of Polish nation. On the First of September since 6am Warsaw – the capital of the country – has been bombarded by German air force – the Luftwaffe. The air raids continued, and peaked on the 25th of September. The city was on fire and was ruined. On the 29th of September, after twenty eight brave and courageous days of defence, Warsaw surrendered and German army entered its limits. It was a huge blow for Polish nation, especially for the capital's citizens.
