Une fête de l’homme
Roger Garaudy avait évoqué la veille, dans sa conférence, les perspectives poétiques de l’avenir de l’homme que le communisme avait inspirées à Aragon. Il était encore à Nice, hier, lorsque est parvenue la nouvelle exaltante sur le plan scientifique : un homme dans l’espace.
-Alors mon cher philosophe, notre joie est grande ! Veux-tu, pour les lecteurs du « Patriote », passer de la poésie à la science ? Quel est ton sentiment devant ce grand exploit ?
-« L’homme vient de faire ses premiers pas dans l’infini. Auparavant, on opposait traditionnellement le ciel à la terre. Pendant des millénaires, on avait appris aux hommes à lever les yeux au ciel pour y découvrir les traces de la grandeur de Dieu. Maintenant, en levant les yeux au ciel, l’homme découvre la marque de sa propre puissance : des astres créés de main d’homme sont entrés familièrement dans la danse des planètes. Le communisme vient de faire une fois de plus la preuve qu’il n’y a pas de limite au pouvoir de l’homme. »
-Explique- nous : pourquoi le communisme ?
-« Parce que cette victoire de la science soviétique est avant tout une victoire du régime soviétique : ce régime dans lequel les richesses produites par tous appartiennent à tous et non à quelques- uns, comme en régime capitaliste, ne porte en lui aucune contradiction qui gêne le progrès de la science et de la technique. En URSS, la recherche n’est pas freinée par la crainte qu’une invention nouvelle ne crée une crise. Ce n’est pas par hasard que la première bombe atomique soit partie des USA, et que la première centrale atomique ait été créée en URSS. Dans la jungle du capital, le génie de l’homme est souvent mis au service de la destruction ; en régime socialiste, le génie de l’homme est mis au service de la création.
La deuxième raison de ce succès, c’est qu’il y a en URSS démocratisation de la culture. Chez nous, 3% seulement d’ouvriers accèdent à l’enseignement supérieur, d’après les statistiques officielles elles mêmes. Nos chercheurs et cadres ne sont recrutés que dans une partie de la nation ; nous laissons en friche sa principale richesse : l’intelligence du peuple.
En URSS, le socialisme a réalisé une démocratie sans mensonges, c'est-à-dire un régime qui donne à chaque enfant, à chaque homme tous les moyens de développer pleinement les richesses humaines qu’il porte en lui.
Voilà pourquoi le socialisme fait la preuve et fera toujours davantage la preuve qu’il apporte la contribution décisive à l’épanouissement et à la grandeur de l’homme.
Cet exploit est une fête de l’homme, de toute l’humanité. Car ce pouvoir nouveau de l’homme sur la nature est mis entièrement par l’Union Soviétique au service de la paix. »

A new era open the history of humanity.
A soviet in the cosmos.
All over the world, the sensational achievement of Yuri Gagarin and the Soviet scientists has aroused enthusiasm and admiration.
An extract from page 6: Man has been praised.
Roger Garaudy has evoked the day before in the conference, man’s future poetical prospects that communism has inspired to Aragon.
He was still in Nice, yesterday, when some exciting news at the scientific level reached him : a man in space;
-My dear philosopher, our joy is so great! Will you switch from poetry to science just for the readers of “the Patriot”? What are your feelings about this huge exploit?
- Man has just started walking in the infinite. The sky and the earth used to be traditionally opposite. For thousands of years, men have learned to raise their eyes heavenwards to discover the signs of the greatness of God. Now, man is discovering the signs of his own power by raising his eyes towards the sky: manmade stars have familiarly joined in the dance of the planets. Once again, Communism has just proved that there are no limits to the power of man.
- Will you explain us: why Communism?
- Because this achievement of Soviet science is above all, a victory of the soviet system. This very system in which wealth produced by all belongs to everyone and not to a few, as in the case with Capitalist regime – our system shows no contradiction that hampers the progress of science and technology.
In the USSR; research is not slowed down for fear that new inventions might arose a crisis. It is not by a sheer coincidence that the first Bomb was dropped by the USA, and the first nuclear plant was born in the USSR. In the jungle of Capitalism, the genius of man has often been in the service of destruction whereas under the Socialist system, the genius of man has often been in the service of destruction whereas under the Socialist system, the genius of man is in the service of creation.
The second reason of this success is due to the democratization of culture. At home, in our country, according to official statistics, only 3% workers reach high education. Our researchers and executives are recruited only from a part of the nation. We let its main treasure go to waste: that is to say: our people’s intelligence.
In the USSR, Socialism achieved a democracy with no lies, that is to say, a system which provides every child, every adult, all means so as to develop entirely human treasures.
This is the reason why Socialism will even more prove that it brings the conclusive contribution to man’s fulfilment and greatness.
This achievement praises man and the whole humanity, because the new power of man over nature is put in the service of Peace by the USSR.
