The Gagarine's flight took place during the Cold War and more precisely during a warming period of the Americano-Soviet relationship. But Belgium makes part of the Occidental Bloc and is a member of NATO. It is thus an ally of the USA. That's why most of the Belgian newspapers express the mistrust and apprehension of the Belgian population. The national perspective we can observe in the Belgian press reflects the feeling of the people. The official vision of the event is quite the same.
