National Content: Germany

The nuclear accident in "Lenin" Atomic Station, Chernobyl, was a nuclear catastrophe and showed the high human price for using atomic energy. Chernobyl was more than a technical disaster or a national catastrophe because atomic energy was used worldwide. The radioactive cloud reached Finland, Sweden and Western-Europe countries. The people in West-Germany, BRD, were well informed in April and may 1986 and changed their lifes for some weeks, months or years. Politically the accident is one of the mainfacts who changed the energypolitic of the 21th century in Germany: the SPD governement decided the denuclearization. Second political development in 1980/90ies content: Chernobyl made clear the system of the DDR did not care about their own people if other Soviet-Russian interestes oppose. DDR-TV didn´t inform about the catastrophe, but western TV did and most of DDR-people heard it. This demonstrated everybody that the ecology movement in DDR may be right in their critic of the governement.
