"L'Espresso" is a weekly magazine which then was close to the left. In this magazine the reasons given for the invasion were presented by the assistant editor of the Belgrade newspaper “Politika”. A few days following the invasion the magazine supports the soviet choices through the publication of an article taken from the Russian magazine “Liturnania Gazeta” where the behaviour of the Czechs is strongly criticized. The worries of the Italian press favouring the left forces still emerge in another article of “L’Espresso” where the Czech components leaning for the Russian choices analyze the event. The voices of a more moderate left were expressed in the daily newspaper “Il Giorno” where the massive popular participation to the funerals of Jan Palach was given an ample space. The Video document “The invasion of Prague” is an exceptional source made up of two articles by RAI (Italian Radio and Television). The first one is the edition of the news programme dated August 21st; it’s the comment of Andrea Barbato who comes across kind of aseptic in his judgement, although the images that are shown show all the violence of the Russian tanks on the Streets of Prague, alternating images of the people’s faces and the soldiers’ faces. The second document offers the noises of the invasion: cries of women and shootings.
