The sources are generally objective in nature, but it does have to be recognized that they are reporting on events from the point of view of the victorious powers at the end of World War Two. The trial provides the wider context to the Second World War, outlining the events in Germany which led to the war and the events of the war which led to the trial. In setting the context to the war at the start of the trial, the reports provide information which would hitherto have been unknown by the general public. It needs to be recognized that such details were only available through the hindsight and the German documentation obtained by the prosecution. The sources all highlight the historical and legal importance of the trial, acknowledging the importance of leaders not being above the law. The amount of detail provided in the news reports suggests that it was felt to be important that the public were made aware of details which would not normally be available and in doing such are providing justification for the trial.
