Contextualisation of the sourceThe article reports comments and opinions about the Adolf Eichmann’s execution and the testimonies of the general attorney Hausner. “L’Unità” is the news paper of the Italian Communist Party. In these years Germany is separated into: Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany ) conservative federal state inspired to the liberal capitalistic system; and in the East Germany (the German Democratic Republic) whit an authoritarian regimen, inspired by the principles of the socialism.
Interpretation of the sourceThe article announces that the world approves Adolf Eichmann’s hanging; but it gives particular relief to a survey; according to it only a third part of Germans agree with the execution. In the opinion of “l’Unità”, we can deduce that the Nazi spirit isn’t still defeated; but, however, the Eichmann’s trial was been a great democratic act.
Original Contents<>ha detto Eichmann prima di morire. <>Se le sue ceneri non fossero state disperse in mare, queste parole andrebbero incise sulla sua tomba, come un epitaffio, a perpetuo ammonimento dei popoli. L’uomo che ha incarnato lo spirito del Nazismo, che ne è stato l‘esecutore fedele, è morto convinto di avere avuto ragione, convinto che la fedeltà alla bandiera giustifica qualsiasi delitto. Eichmann è scomparso, il Nazismo vive. Il processo Eichmann è stata una grande lezione, un grande atto democratico che trova il suo paragone in quello compiuto a Norimberga dalla giustizia antifascista.

If his ashes hadn’t been dispersed in the sea, these words would have been placed on top of his tomb like an epitaph as a perpetual exhortation to people. The man who had brought the spirit of Nazism to life, and the man who obeyed the order of the Nazi Leaders died convinced that his allegiance to Nazism justified any crime. Eichmann passed away, but Nazism lives. The trial against Eichmann has been a great lesson, a great democratic behaviour that was measured against the Nuremberg’s trial.
