Original Contents (English Translation) | The war is at the French-German bordersBeginning of the operations on earth, sky and seaThe first bulletin diffused from Paris Europe is at war. The world is hit by the new catastrophe. With the weapons at its feet and with hearts strengthened by the flame of four wars and a Revolution, the Italian people is waiting for the events; and, with them, for the orders coming from the “Duce”. With the same admirable calm of the latest days, Italian men and women knew last evening on the radio that England too, in accordance with France, threw itself down in the irretrievable. Polemic reasons in which England insisted, until the end, trying to justify itself in front of the world, did not move us. Italian people, facing the dramatic oratorical manifestations of the two democratic governments, underlined with sarcasm the entering of Eden in the new English Cabinet. The representative of the “sanctioned sanctionism”. On the contrary, Italian people admires proudly facing the vision of the supreme compactness, perceived through the radio, of the great Germany, compact near its Führer and determined on one hand to defend its right and on the other to subdue the arrogance of the “demo-plutocracies”. Mr. Chamberlain, with his yesterday’s message, wishes to live long enough to see the day when «a rebuilt and free Europe will be re-established». We wish him a long life, but there’s something extremely certain: Italy, however, will not be extraneous to the rebuilding and to the liberation of Europe; and the new Europe will never come from a second Versailles. |
