At the time of the invasion of Poland by the German troops, Belgium intends to enforce its neutrality. It indeed freed itself of any alliance system, even defensive and increased its military means. Its politics of independence has been strictly warranted by France, England and Germany in 1937. The Pierlot’s government, gathering the three traditional parties (catholic, socialist, liberal), defends this position which found a large majority at the Parliament. Nevertheless some Walloons criticize “what they consider as an “overzealous neutrality” (MABILLE X., Histoire politique de la Belgique, CRISP, Bruxelles, 1986.)
